Justin Bieber has taken credit for Southend United’s return to form after goal hero Ryan Leonard admitted he was a ‘belieber'.

The Southend United midfielder had not scored in 17 appearances this season before notching three goals in his last four appearances for the Shrimpers.

Leonard told the Southend Echo that his upsurge in form was a result of the squad listening to Bieber songs in the dressing room and the story went viral on social media.

The Canadian popstar, who has stormed the charts in the UK with two recent number one singles, was tweeted the story about Leonard and replied to his 70 million followers, saying: "Fact. LOL".

Leonard paid further homage to his love for Bieber's songs by performing some of his dance moves as he celebrated a goal against Sheffield United.

"Myself, Cokes (Ben Coker), Will (Atkinson), Wozza (David Worrall) and Hursty (Kevan Hurst) pretty much live together and we're addicted to Justin Bieber's new song,' he said.

"We all said that when one of us scored we would all do that celebration but it didn't look quite as good on the television as I had imagined.
