Burton Albion will allow manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to speak to Queens Park Rangers if they receive an official approach from the west London club.
Sky Sports News HQ understands that QPR are planning to ask Burton's permission to speak to the former Chelsea striker next week.
Burton are aware of Rangers' interest in Hasselbaink, whose family still live in the south east, where Hasselbaink commutes from to Burton every week.
Burton play Colchester at home on Saturday and then Millwall on Tuesday night but do not then have a match for 11 days because they are out of the FA Cup, and it is in this time that QPR are anticipated to make their move.
Hasselbaink, who took over at Burton in November last year and led them to promotion to League One, refused to rule himself out of the running ahead of his side's win at Wigan on Tuesday.
He told Sky Sports: "I can't do anything about the speculation and people talking or writing stories.
"I can only make sure I am honest and professional to the players. I give my all to them, the club and the board. I am concentrating on Burton and what will happen in the future will happen."
QPR have been without a manager since they sacked Chris Ramsey on November 4 and former boss Neil Warnock, who had returned to the club in an advisory role, has been in interim charge.
Warnock was not in the dugout for last weekend's defeat at Middlesbrough, with assistant Kevin Blackwell taking the team instead, but he is expected to be on the sidelines for Saturday's clash with Leeds.
