The Premier League-leading Foxes are understood to have pursued the France Under-21 international during the January transfer window but were unable to agree terms with his current club.

Niang, 21, then injured his ankle in a car accident in February, but in the last few weeks has recovered and put in some impressive performances in Serie A.

Borussia Dortmund are also reported in Germany to have bid for the player.

Niang joined Milan from French side Caen in 2012 and has spent time out on loan at Montpellier and Genoa.
