Danny Ings has been told he may have to bide his time for a first-team chance at Liverpool this season.
Ings joined on a free transfer last summer and won a first England cap in October, but the striker suffered a cruciate injury in training shortly after Jurgen Klopp's arrival and did not return until the final game of the season.
Klopp left the 24-year-old out of his squad for Sunday's 4-3 victory at Arsenal and instead sent him to play for the Reds' U23 side.
And with Daniel Sturridge due back this weekend to challenge Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Sadio Mane for a forward place, Klopp is offering Ings no immediate guarantee of Premier League action.
"I like Danny, I talked to him and I told him last week in my opinion it is better he collects game time," Klopp said. "The situation here is like it is. We have not a big problem in this moment with strikers."
Saturday's game against Burnley has been switched to Turf Moor as work on Anfield's new Main Stand continues.
Klopp said: "I can't describe the advantage of a home game but there is an advantage, atmosphere always helps in good moments.
"We've known the situation with the new stand for a long time. I know about Burnley and they are really strong and confident at home."
