Toronto FC became the first team to book their place in Major League Soccer's playoffs on Sunday night.

The Eastern Conference leaders came from 3-1 down to earn a 3-3 draw with the second-placed New York Red Bulls, with Jozy Altidore maintaining his recent impressive run with two goals at BMO Field.

Steven Beitashour's own goal gave the Red Bulls the lead and a pair of Bradley Wright-Phillips goals - either side of Michael Bradley's reply - extended the visitors' lead to 3-1 early in the second half.

However, Altidore netted in the 69th minute, then levelled four minutes from time to get the Reds the point they needed to clinch their spot in the post-season action.

The former Sunderland striker's double prevented the Red Bulls moving to the top of the table - but they can expect to join their opponents in the playoffs soon.

Sunday's other game saw the LA Galaxy draw 2-2 with fellow Western Conference rivals Sporting Kansas City.

Alan Gordon gave the Galaxy a seventh-minute lead at Sporting Park but Jacob Peterson (50) and Dominic Dwyer (69) turned the game on its head, only for substitute Landon Donovan to level 13 minutes from time - his first goal since coming out of retirement, and within two minutes of his introduction.

The Galaxy are well placed for a playoff spot, while SKC currently occupy the sixth and final playoff position - although the seventh-placed Seattle Sounders will claim it if they win their two games in hand.
