Ronald Koeman is confident Feyenoord will pip Ajax to the Eredivisie title in what the Everton manager has described as an "incredible" end to the season in the Netherlands.

Feyenoord head into Sunday's final round of fixtures one point ahead of rivals Ajax, and know victory at home to Heracles Almelo - live on the Sky Sports 2 red button - will see them crowned champions for the first time since 1999.

Ajax's match at Willem II will also be available on the red button, with the Amsterdam outfit knowing that a 34th league title is theirs if they win and Feyenoord fail to beat Heracles.

Feyenoord had the opportunity to clinch the title last weekend at Excelsior, but a shock 3-0 defeat ensured the race wouldn't be decided until the final day, while it also sparked some ugly scenes on the streets of Rotterdam afterwards.

It remains Feyenoord's to lose as they welcome ninth-placed Heracles at home, having not lost at De Kuip all season - winning 14 and drawing two. And it's this factor which leads Koeman to believe that Feyenoord will taste victory once more.

"It's incredible," said Koeman, who has played and managed both clubs, winning the league with Ajax as a player (1985) and manager in 2002 and 2004.

"Everybody expected last week for Feyenoord to be champions, but they lost and it's now all about the last game.

"I still believe Feyenoord will win the title because they are playing at home, and they are really strong there.

"It's good for Dutch football that after a long time Feyenoord could win the title."

Final day permutations

Feyenoord have topped the table since the opening weekend, with a 5-0 victory at Groningen setting them on their way.

And heading into the Sunday's climax in the Eredivisie, Feyenoord sit on 79 points - one ahead of Ajax.

Feyenoord just have to win at home and the league title is theirs, while Ajax can lift the trophy if they win and the current leaders lose or draw to Heracles.

Goal difference would only come into play if Ajax draw and Feyenoord lose, as it would leave both teams on 79 points.

Feyenoord currently boast a better goal difference by five - 59 versus 54 - meaning a draw for Ajax would only be good enough if their rivals lose to Heracles by six goals or more.

Familiar faces at Feyenoord

The Rotterdam-based club have a familiar face at the helm as they bid to end their 18-year title drought.

Former Arsenal and Barcelona defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst started and finished his playing career at Feyenoord, and he could now be the man to lead them to league glory.

Van Bronckhorst patiently waited in the wings as Koeman's assistant from 2011 to 2014, and then under Fred Rutten for the 2014-15 season.

But the former Netherlands international was then handed the reigns for the 2015-16 campaign, where they lifted the KNVB Cup, but ultimately finished third in the league, 21 points behind champions PSV.

Now Feyenoord are leading the way under Van Bronckhorst. The league is within their grasp, while a season in the Champions League awaits.

Another man on a mission is 36-year-old forward Dirk Kuyt.

The former Liverpool player is a fans' favourite at Feyenoord, having returned there for a second stint after leaving Fenerbahce in 2015.

The veteran has netted nine league goals this campaign, providing six assists to boot, and he will be desperate for more glory after sampling a first career title in Turkey three years ago.

Party like it's 1999?

The 1998/99 season will be remembered in England for Manchester United's treble-winning exploits, but over in the Netherlands, Feyenoord were revelling in a 14th league title come season's end.

With Jerzy Dudek in goal and the Julio Ricardo Cruz-Jon Dahl Tomasson partnership doing the business up front, Feyenoord won the title by 15 points.

Feyenoord fans will be hoping to party like it's 1999 once more on Sunday night - can they see it out? Or will Ajax cancel their parade? Be sure to watch the title run-in on Sky Sports this weekend.
