Hull City manager Marco Silva says it's a "sad day" for his club after they were relegated from the Premier League following defeat to Crystal Palace, who secured their own top-flight survival with a 4-0 win at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
In a game Hull could not afford to lose, they got off to the worst of starts as Andrea Ranocchia's third-minute error presented Wilfried Zaha with the opener, before Christian Benteke notched his sixth goal in nine games on 34 minutes.
The visitors were incensed Zaha was not penalised for handball in the build-up to Palace's second, while they were also denied a penalty for Jason Puncheon's clear handball.
Silva threw two extra forwards on at half time but it was too little, too late for the toothless Tigers as a Luka Milivojevic penalty and Patrick van Aanholt's late strike settled the contest.
Speaking after the game, Silva told Sky Sports: "It's really sad for the club and for our fans.
"Of course we did our best to make something different and of course we tried to do everything to change. This is a sad day for us."
The Portuguese admitted it was difficult for his men to take control of the crucial game after their disastrous start.
"I said before today it was a final and when we start the day and give a goal to our opponent, of course it's difficult.
"We gave them what they wanted and of course everything is different after."
The 39-year-old felt Hull should have been awarded a penalty when Jason Puncheon appeared to handle the ball inside the Palace box.
"It's true, it was a penalty, but it's not the moment to make excuses," he continued.
"What we felt in the last four or five games is that too many things happened."
Asked about his future at the club, Silva said his more immediate focus is to look into where his side's season went wrong before considering his own role.
He added: "I will see. Now is the moment to analyse with the board and the chairman. I will give them my opinion because it's clear for me.
"I think it's easy for the club to understand what they did wrong for the season.
"Afterwards I will have a chat with the chairman, of course."
