Huddersfield boss David Wagner praised his side’s performance against a ‘top Watford team’ as Huddersfield romped to a 4-1 win.

Huddersfield manager David Wagner admitted he "had a feeling" that it was only a matter of time before his side produced a result to match their away performances after Watford were beaten at Vicarage Road.

Aaron Mooy's double fired the Terriers to a scintillating 4-1 win in Hertfordshire and only their second away victory of the season with Elias Kachunga and Laurent Depoitre also on target.

The result moves Huddersfield up to 11th in the table on 21 points and manager Wagner was delighted with his team's display, which he felt had been coming.

He said: "It's been a long time since we scored, today we scored four and this is football. We've had the feeling that this has just been around the corner even if the results have not been there.

"We've stayed calmed and focused and we've made big steps to make improvements in the past couple of months. They were never driven away because of results so credit to them.

"I'm proud and delighted for the players and the away support today was absolutely incredible. We need 12 wins to stay up and we now have six.

"We are still very humble, but we are ambitious and people have seen that over the whole season, especially today."

The result has injected renewed belief that the Yorkshire club can consolidate their position in the top flight, with Southampton, struggling Stoke and a home fixture with Burnley to come before the New Year.

But their return to winning ways was not without its controversy as Kachunga's opener came after both he and Collin Quaner were in offside positions, while it was also not without a cost after both Chris Lowe and Kachunga were forced off in the first-half.

Wagner added: "To be honest I haven't seen it back (the first goal). But in the end, I feel we played well today and scored some wonderful goals and created many opportunities.

"It was a deserved result and the players performed at their best. We knew that Watford currently have some problems with suspensions and injuries.

"The game was too great for us to be here discussing referee decisions. Our performance was too strong.

"Kachunga's injury looks quite serious. He has something with his knee and we'll see how it is. Lowe took a knock to his feet. We'll have to see how serious they are over the next couple of days.
