Preston are set to make their first signing of the summer after agreeing a deal with Aberdeen's Barry Nicholson.

Preston manager Alan Irvine is finally set to make his first signing of the summer with the club close to landing Aberdeen's Barry Nicholson. The midfielder, 29, is poised to undergo a medical after agreeing terms on a two-year contract with the option for a third year. A statement on North End's official website said: "Preston North End can confirm that they will sign Scottish midfielder Barry Nicholson subject to a medical." Nicholson, who began his career at Rangers and has also had a spell at Dunfermline, has made three appearances for Scotland. Plymouth, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Leicester have all been linked with Nicholson in the past.
