Gers striker taking no notice of speculation about Ibrox future

Rangers striker Kris Boyd has exclusively told skysports.com he is ignoring the ongoing speculation regarding his future as he focuses on the club's upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign. Boyd topped the goalscoring charts in the SPL last season, taking his tally for Rangers to a remarkable 78 goals in 112 league appearances, but his future at Ibrox remains the subject of much conjecture. The former Scotland international turned his back on a £3.8million move to Birmingham City in January and is now entering the final year of his contract in Glasgow. But with the reigning Scottish champions preparing for the Champions League group stages, Boyd - who has consistently stated he wishes to stay with the club - is refusing to entertain discussions about his long-term prospects at Ibrox.

Looking forward

When asked if there had been renewed interest from other clubs, Boyd told skysports.com: "I am just getting my head down and working hard in pre-season, getting my fitness up. I am looking forward to the new season beginning and we will just go forward from there. "It is the first time that Rangers have been straight into the Champions League, so it gets us in with the bigger teams in Europe and we look forward to that. Hopefully we can show that we are ready to compete against these types of teams "After last season, winning the championship, you look forward to the Champions League. It is a big arena to play in. "We look forward to that and hopefully we can show that we are a good team in Europe." Rangers became the first Scottish team to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League under Alex McLeish in the 2005/06 season and, more recently, reached the final of the 2008 Uefa Cup before losing to Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester. Boyd is reluctant to expand on the club's objectives ahead of their latest European campaign though, adding: "I don't think you can set a target as we don't know who we have yet. "When you look at the group [with Lyon, Barcelona and Stuttgart] we came up against two years ago no one probably thought we would get a point but we were unlucky to go out in the last match. "We went on and had a great run in the Uefa Cup and hopefully we can do well in the Champions League this year."
