Bristol City's summer signing David Clarkson has revealed the time was right to leave Motherwell for a new challenge. The 23-year-old left the Fir Park outfit following eight years with the club during the close season after an undisclosed bid was accepted. Clarkson believes the time might have come for the state of the Scottish game to be assessed with compatriots Brian Easton, James McCarthy and Steven Fletcher all joining English clubs this summer. "I felt it was the right time to leave Motherwell as I had been there for eight years," he told the Daily Record. "I loved my time there but I'm 23 and it was the right time and place to move on. There were other players who felt the same. "Nowadays there are more young players coming through and there are more Championship sides coming in for Scottish players. "Maybe it is something that has to be looked at."
