Everton say they didn't bid for Croat

Everton have denied Niko Kranjcar's claims that he shunned a move to Goodison Park. The Croatian international completed a move to Tottenham from Portsmouth on Tuesday. After sealing the switch, Kranjcar stated that he had the chance to join Everton - but he opted for Spurs instead. However, Everton have insisted they did not try and sign Kranjcar. "Not at any point did anyone from the club contact Portsmouth to express an interest in Niko Kranjcar," Moyes told the club's official website. "In Steven Pienaar and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov we already have players who provide excellent cover in his chosen position." Everton chairman Bill Kenwright also denied the claim, stating: "I couldn't believe my eyes when I read what Kranjcar is alleged to have said. "We made no approach either to Portsmouth or to the player's respresentatives; maybe he was talking about Everton Chile."
