Midfielder facing up to three months out

Burnley have suffered a blow with the news Chris McCann faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury. McCann sustained medial knee ligament damage during Saturday's 3-1 win over Sunderland. The influential midfielder picked up the injury in a challenge with Black Cats defender Michael Turner and was forced to limp off after 28 minutes. Scans have confirmed Burnley's worst fears and McCann now faces up to three months on the sidelines. The news is a blow to Owen Coyle's plans with McCann impressing so far this season and it could mean an extended run in the side for Joey Gudjonsson who replaced McCann against Sunderland. "Chris has suffered a bad injury and I would expect him to be out for a minimum of two to three months," bemoaned Coyle. "He has damaged his medial ligament. It's very unfortunate and a body blow for him. "That's where my thoughts are because whenever he has been available he has been in my team. "I think the world of him, both as a player and as a lad and the good thing is he is at such a young age he will come back better and stronger for it."
