Manchester City captain Kolo Toure still feels his side need to improve defensively despite beating West Ham at Eastlands.
City ensured the derby defeat to Manchester United was only a blip as they returned to winning ways in the Premier League courtesy of a Carlos Tevez brace and a Martin Petrov free-kick to seal Monday night's 3-1 win against the Hammers.
The result sees Mark Hughes' side move up to fifth in the table, but centre-back Toure insists his team-mates need to continue to improve defensively if they are to maintain their fine start to the current campaign.
"We took three points that was the most important thing," the defender told
skysports.com.
"We played very well at times, we showed mental attributes because we dominated and West Ham scored against the run of play. Tevez scored two brilliant goals and I think Martin had an excellent game as well.
"We need to work in defence, we are not on top yet in the defence and we need (time on the) training field to improve and make it a fortress, and we will do well."
City's latest win came without the services of leading scorer Emmanuel Adebayor, who is set to return from serving an improper conduct charge and Toure thinks the striker will give the side an extra boost for next Monday's trip to Aston Villa.
He added: "Next week we have Manu Adebayor, hopefully he can come and score again."
