Defender does not travel to Prague due to ankle injury

Jonny Evans has withdrawn from the Northern Ireland squad to face Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier due to an ankle injury. The Manchester United defender becomes the eighth player to pull out of manager Nigel Worthington's plans. Northern Ireland still have a slim chance of securing a play-off place from Group 3, requiring a specific set of results to have any chance of booking a place in South Africa. But Evans will not be able to help his country as the centre-back has remained at home rather than travelling to Prague. The 21-year-old played in September's defeat to Slovakia at Windsor Park, which has left Northern Ireland clinging to hopes of grabbing a play-off place.
