Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies is hoping forward Robert Earnshaw will return to action sooner than expected.
The 28-year-old striker picked up a calf injury on international duty for Wales during training, and is thought to be sidelined for one month.
But Forest boss Davies is hoping Earnshaw, who has scored once in two league starts so far this season, will come back to the fold soon.
"The medical people are always erring on the side of caution as they do," Davies told Sky Sports News. "They tell you it's going to be longer than what it actually is.
"We're hoping it's only a couple of games but there's no doubt that we need to get him back."
Davies has guided his Forest side to 10th place in the Championship after 11 games, and is full of praise for his current crop of players, who he gave a rest period in the build-up to Saturday's visit of Newcastle.
"I think they deserve their time off," he added.
"I've given them three or four days off which is crucial for these guys because I've got nothing but respect and admiration for the group that we've got at the moment.
"Their work ethic, their attitude, their camaraderie and spirit in the dressing room - I've got to say I'm absolutely delighted and if this team can keep injury free and keep believing that what we're doing is the right thing to do and keep getting those little breaks, then we'll keep getting progress I'm sure."
