Keeper to provide cover for injured Roche

Morecambe have signed Doncaster goalkeeper Ben Smith on loan, skysports.com understands. Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy has moved to bring in Smith after losing first-choice keeper Barry Roche to injury. Roche faces a month on the sidelines with a knee injury and McIlroy has drafted in Smith to provide cover. Smith, who joined Doncaster from Newcastle in 2006, has seen his path to the first-team blocked by the form of veteran keeper Neil Sullivan. Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll is happy to loan out the 23-year-old so that he can get some valuable first-team action under his belt. Smith is set to go straight into Morecambe squad for this weekend's trip to Torquay.
