Bremen midfielder suffers thigh injury
Werder Bremen midfielder Torsten Frings is set to be sidelined for a 'significant' period of time after suffering a thigh injury.
The Germany international picked up the problem in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Nurnberg and had to be replaced midway through the second half.
Scans later revealed the extent of the damage, with Frings tearing muscle fibres to leave him facing a spell on the sidelines.
He is set to miss a number of Bundesliga and Europa League matches, while the injury also ends any hope Frings had of earning a recall to the Germany squad for their upcoming friendlies against Chile and Ivory Coast.
Bremen boss Thomas Schaaf admits it is a blow to lose such an in-form player, who has helped the club climb to second place in the Bundesliga table.
"He is going to be out for a significant time, but we will do all we can to make the break as short as possible," said Schaaf.
"He has given everything he has got so far and played a very good season."
