Vassell may have to sit tight

Situation at Ankaragucu threatens to get worse for striker

The situation for Darius Vassell in Turkey could get worse before it gets better as a presidential war threatens to emerge at Ankaragucu. The striker joined the Turkish club in the summer on a free transfer but his stay in the country became clouded after he was thrown out of his hotel late at night on Wednesday due to Ankaragucu failing to foot his bills. The 29-year-old was left bewildered by his treatment and conceded he was contemplating a move back home. However the situation looks unlikely to improve with Ankaragucu president Ahmet Gokcek refusing to spend any money until his position is secured in January. As a result of Gokcek's involvement with Ankaragucu, city rivals Ankaraspor - who Gokcek also owns - were recently relegated from the Super Lig by the Turkish FA as no one person is allowed to have an association with two clubs resulting in Ankaraspor's players joining Ankaragucu 'on loan' swelling first-team numbers to over 40. Cameroon international Gustave Bebe was in the same situation as Vassell as he too was evicted from the hotel he had been staying at since he arrived for a second spell at the club in the summer.

Empty promises

"The players should have been given apartments but [the club] keep saying next week, next week," Bebe's agent Brian Humphreys told Skysports.com. Humphreys also pointed out that despite the mayhem surrounding the club Vassell could yet stay in Turkey although he refused to rule out Ankaragucu cashing in on the former Manchester City man with the club reportedly facing debts of up to £16million. "They will have to wait until January because of the transfer window but I think Vassell has had problems from the word go [the frontman had trouble receiving his wages]," he added. "Money talks in football. The rumours say that Darius Vassell is unhappy there but he is under contract. "But if a player is unhappy they will let him leave."
