New Boro boss hoping to keep ace

Middlesbrough's new manager Gordon Strachan believes it is imperative the club retain Adam Johnson's services. The goal-scoring winger has been a revelation for Boro this season with a number of crucial goals and sterling displays. However, Johnson is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with numerous moves away from the Riverside. Strachan admits thrashing out his future is one of his priorities, although he is looking to get to know him better before holding talks.

Phenomenal

"Adam Johnson's record this season is phenomenal," explained Strachan. "His record and the club's results run hand in hand. He's a terrific player. "I am hoping that over time we gradually get to know each other. "I don't think you can have a big conversation like that. I want to get to know him. "All I can say is that since I've been here he's handled himself brilliantly."
