Nottingham Forest have struck a deal with Aston Villa to bring in left-back Nicky Shorey on loan.

Defender to play out the year at The City Ground

Nottingham Forest have struck a deal with Aston Villa to bring in left-back Nicky Shorey on loan. The former England international will stay at the City Ground until the end of December and will link up with his new team-mates on Thursday. Villa boss Martin O'Neill has the option to recall Shorey, who has two England caps, but only 28 days after the loan begins. The 28-year-old looks set to make his debut in Forest's home game against Doncaster on Saturday. Shorey began his career at Leyton Orient before making a name for himself at Reading, where he made over 300 appearances in seven successful years. After first catching the eye of former England boss Steve McClaren, O'Neill brought the full-back to Villa Park in August 2008 for an undisclosed fee. However, Shorey has struggled to make an impact at the club and after playing just once since August, he will aim to regain his fitness at Championship level.
