Bayern Munich general manager Uli Hoeness feels striker Luca Toni can rescue his career with the club if he apologises for his recent comments.
The Italian was fined €25,000 (£22,600) by the club on Thursday for going public over his relationship with under-fire coach Louis van Gaal.
Toni admitted his relationship with the Dutchman was 'as good as over' in a bid to trigger a January move back to his homeland after failing to hold down a regular place at the Allianz Arena this term.
Hoeness, however, believes the 32-year-old still has a future at the club and can force his way back into Van Gaal's plans.
"He has the chance to apologise. This is pending. If that happens, there is a chance of a commitment between him and Louis van Gaal," said Hoeness.
"I am prepared to act like a conciliator, on both sides. I am optimistic we are going to achieve a little bit of commitment.
"Luca Toni is aware we are not about to accept a transfer. On the other hand it is a fact this is an issue among men and should be dealt with as one."
Hoeness reiterated his willingness to act as a go-between in a bid to salvage the relationship, but insists Toni must first express his regret before he can be forgiven.
"I will try to mediate on both sides. I think we have already got a small connection between them," he added.
"I know we can't accept his behaviour, but on the other hand there is always the possibility for men to apologise."
Toni is thought to be keen to return to Serie A ahead of the World Cup in South Africa next summer, with Roma reportedly monitoring his situation.
On Wednesday, Van Gaal continued the public bickering between the pair by saying: "The player has indicated he wants away. Then he must look for a club."
