Midfielder set for African Cup of Nations

Kevin-Prince Boateng has delivered a blow to Portsmouth by confirming he wants to play for Ghana. The news that the influential midfielder, who represented Germany at Under 21 level, now wants to play for Ghana is unlikely to go down well at Fratton Park. That is because, with the African Cup of Nations due to take place early next year, Boateng is now likely to miss most of January. Pompey could already be without a host of players ahead of the tournament in Angola, with Kanu, John Utaka, Nadir Belhadj, Hassan Yebda and Aruna Dindane all possible absentees. Boateng confirmed his intention to play for the Black Stars, who have also qualified for next summer's World Cup finals. "At my age I want to be playing at the World Cup and it would be difficult for me to get into the Germany team. My dad is from Ghana so it is a big celebration for my family," he told The People. "The African Cup of Nations is a massive tournament and we have a great chance of winning it so there was no question of me not going. "I just have to make sure we have got more points before I go there."
