Everton defender Joseph Yobo could miss out on the African Cup of Nations with a hamstring injury.
The Toffees centre-half limped off during Everton's 2-2 draw with Tottenham last Sunday and scans have now revealed that he has suffered a muscle tear.
The Nigeria international has been ruled out until the New Year and he may not have recovered in time for the tournament in Angola which starts on 10th January.
Everton also have injury worries over fellow central defenders Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin, and this will be a fresh blow as they try and turn around their poor season.
"A scan carried out showed that it was a familiar hamstring injury (and) that I should rest until the end of the year," Yobo told the club's
official website.
"They (doctors) anticipate that I should be fully back at the end of December.
"Unfortunately that will cost me a chance to help out my club at this demanding and crucial stage of the season."
Yobo will now miss Premier League games against Chelsea, Birmingham, Sunderland and Burnley, as well as the Europa League clash with BATE Borisov.
The 29-year-old has been a regular performer for Everton so far this term, making 17 appearances and scoring twice.
