Toffees striker desperate to stay fit

Everton striker James Vaughan is desperate to stay fit for the remainder of the season after an injury-ravaged campaign. The 21-year-old's campaign has been decimated by injury. Even when he joined Derby on loan to gain match sharpness he was forced to undergo another knee operation. Vaughan made his Toffees return in Sunday's 1-1 draw with in-form Birmingham City at Goodison Park and now hopes to stay well away from the treatment table. It has been mooted he could be re-signed by Derby on loan, but Vaughan is coy on the possibility of returning to Pride Park - stating he is simply looking forward. Vaughan became the Premier League's youngster-ever scorer in 2005 and now wants to set new records rather than focusing on his past achievements.

Stay fit

"I had another setback but only a minor one, it was a bit of a kick in the teeth but you have to get on with it, don't you?" said Vaughan. "Hopefully I can now stay fit for the remainder of the season and have a good second half of the campaign. "The past is the past for me and I just want to create a new record and do what I can do in the future. I don't really want to look back. "It's really nice to have and I'll always be proud of holding it, but if it was to go tomorrow it wouldn't really affect me at all. "I just want to move on now, forget about my injuries, forget about everything that's gone before and just invent myself again. Hopefully then I can give people new things to talk about."
