David Nugent is hoping a deal can be agreed to stay at Burnley as he looks to face boyhood heroes Everton on Monday.
The striker is on loan at Burnley from Portsmouth and has scored three goals in the Premier League during his time at Turf Moor.
After Nugent headed the equaliser in the Boxing Day draw with Bolton Wanderers, Clarets boss Owen Coyle outlined his intention to hang on to the England cap.
Coyle wants to either extend the loan until the end of the season or agree a permanent deal with Portsmouth for the former Preston North End ace.
Nugent's immediate aim is to retain his place in the team for the game at Everton, but he also wants to stay with Burnley.
"Everyone knows I'm an Everton fan, but I'm a Burnley player now and hope something can be sorted out as soon as possible so I can stay," said Nugent.
"The gaffer gave me a chance in the starting line-up and I hope I did enough to keep my place against Everton.
"Around 25 of my family and friends are going to the game and I'd love to be involved."
