Daryl Murphy is refusing to let the Sunderland boo boys win but admits his future may lie away from the Stadium of Light.
The Irishman has endured an indifferent relationship with the Black Cats faithful and has recently been jeered from the stands.
He has even had to put up with boos prior to making substitute appearances but two assists in two games since being recalled to Steve Bruce's first XI have eased the pressure on him.
Murphy accepts recent experiences have been an eye-opener but is refusing to grumble as he sets about proving his detractors wrong.
"You are not going to have it your own way all of the time," he told the
Sunderland Echo.
"This last few months have been a learning curve for me and hopefully I'll be a stronger person for it.
"The boo boys have had their say and it's not been a nice experience because at the end of the day everyone goes on the pitch wanting to do their best and giving everything.
"You are going to have hard times in your career and it's about how you cope with them.
"It's definitely been up and down for me and I don't need telling if I haven't played well, but every fan has a right to their opinion and to be fair they got behind me on Saturday, so it was nice for a change."
Transfer talk
While Murphy has enjoyed his recent run in the side he is well aware that the opening of the transfer window this month could signal his departure.
Murphy, 26, is in his fifth season with Sunderland since being brought to the club by then boss Mick McCarthy. He accepts this may be his last in red and white.
"I've not spoken with the manager about what will or won't happen this month, but if something comes up then I'd have to consider it if it was the right thing for me. I've only played a couple of games in the Premier League this season and that tells its own story," he continued.
"It's been great being in the team again and it's reminded me what I've been missing. I need to be playing games.
"I've been close to leaving a couple of times in the last year or so. We'll see what happens."
