Stoke defender aiming to kickstart career at Royals

Reading have completed the loan signing of Stoke defender Andy Griffin until the end of the season. As revealed by skysports.com last week Reading had lined up a loan deal to bring Griffin to the Madejski Stadium to bolster their squad. The 30-year-old was an integral part of the Potters squad when they achieved promotion to the Premier League in 2008 but has since struggled to hold down a regular first-team place and has made just three League Cup appearances this season. Griffin is ineligible for the FA Cup replay against Liverpool on Wednesday night but could make his debut in Saturday's trip to high-flying Nottingham Forest. Royals manager Brian McDermott told the club's official website: "Andy is an experienced player at the top level. "He was skipper at Stoke, and got promotion there, so he's got great pedigree. "I felt we needed a right-back and he can play that role so I'm sure he's going to be a good signing for us. "He's hungry and wants to play. He hasn't played for a while though and needs to kickstart his career because he wants to play for another five or six years I'm sure. "Hopefully we can help him do that."
