Central defender extends stay at Bramall Lane

Jonathan Fortune has signed a new contract at Sheffield United. The 29-year-old has only featured twice for the Blades this season, but boss Kevin Blackwell has been impressed with his contribution and was keen to offer the former Crystal Palace man another short-term deal. Blackwell said: "Jonathan has been plagued by injuries but when we needed him at Barnsley he came in and did a great job. "He picked up a severe hamstring injury when we won at Bristol City, and although he could do with a little more time, I put him on the bench on Saturday because we were short of defensive cover." Fortune is vying with the likes of Marcel Seip, Matthew Kilgallon and Chris Morgan for a place in the Blades defence, but Blackwell insists his know-how is a valuable asset to the squad. He added: "Jon is an experienced professional and it's great to have him on board."
