Everton have confirmed that they have agreed a deal to sign Legia Warsaw goalkeeper Jan Mucha.

Shot-stopper expected in England after the World Cup

Everton have confirmed that they have agreed a deal to sign Legia Warsaw goalkeeper Jan Mucha at the end of the season. Toffees boss David Moyes revealed on Friday that his club were in talks regarding the shot-stopper and a free transfer has been settled. Mucha, who has signed a pre-contract agreement, will now move to Goodison Park in the summer when his contract with Legia expires. The 27-year-old has penned a three-year deal and is expected to arrive in England after participating in the World Cup with Slovakia. Moyes, who saw his side eliminated from the FA Cup by Birmingham on Saturday, is understood to view Mucha as back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Deserved deal

"It makes me happy to know that Slovakia will have their first goalkeeper ever in the Premier League," Mucha's agent Jozef Tokos told SITA. "Janko deserves this move for his long-term excellent performances both at international and club level. "He also had offers from Italy, France and Turkey but has decided not to take the most lucrative one. His priority has been the sporting side of things and Everton is the best one. "He is going to compete with Tim Howard for the position of first-choice goalkeeper, but I am convinced he can gain ground there."
