Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa has moved to end speculation over his future by signing a new deal at the DW Stadium.
Figueroa's future at Wigan has been the subject of conjecture during this month's transfer window with former Latics boss Steve Bruce strongly linked with a making a move for the full-back.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez hit out at the speculation over the Honduras international earlier this week by blasting 'insulting' bids for the player.
The 26-year-old has established himself as a key member of the Wigan squad and the club have rewarded him with a new deal until 2012.
"Maynor is a top professional, undoubtedly one of the best I have worked with in my time in the game and I am very happy that we have been able to reward him in this manner and put an end to all the silliness surrounding him in recent weeks," Martinez told the club's
official website.
"I have talked to Maynor at length, as a fellow Spanish speaker it helps that we can communicate very clearly with one another.
"I said all along that if we decide to sell any of our most consistent performers, it will be only when the time is right for Wigan Athletic, with that money reinvested in order to move the club to the next level."
Figueroa was happy to end all the rumours over his future and be able to focus on his football.
"I am glad all the talk is over now and I can concentrate 100% on playing football and doing well for Wigan Athletic," added Figueroa.
