West Ham striker delighted to beat Birmingham

Carlton Cole believes West Ham's victory over Birmingham has provided everyone at the club with a much-needed lift. The Hammers had not won since Boxing Day ahead of their home clash with Alex McLeish's high-flying Blues on Wednesday. However, they produced an impressive performance to upset the form book and prevail 2-0 thanks to goals from Alessandro Diamanti and Cole. The result moved West Ham out of the relegation zone and England striker Cole has described the high spirits in the camp after the final whistle. "It was a massive win for us. I can't tell you how ecstatic the boys are in the changing room," he told the club's official website. "We're so happy we got the result for the manager, the fans, the chairmen, ourselves, everyone. "It was something we all deserved and we all needed - to lift the whole club - it was just fantastic."

Praise

Diamanti broke the deadlock with a stunning free-kick and Cole admits it is a major bonus to have such a threat from set-pieces. "He is a master at them, we're lucky to have someone like him in our ranks to take free-kicks at such pressure times. The guy has a real talent," praised the England striker. Cole also paid tribute to newcomer Mido, saying: "He did brilliantly. He held up the ball well and linked up with the midfielders as well. "We have got some good strikers. We're all very much together and we just want positive vibes around the club, to carry on the season and progress up the league."
