Defender to miss Albania friendly

Jonny Evans has withdrawn from the Northern Ireland squad for Wednesday's friendly against Albania. The centre-back completed 90 minutes for Manchester United in their Carling Cup final victory over Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon. However, he picked up a knock to his knee that made him doubtful for international duty. The 22-year-old travelled to Albania with his team-mates but sat out training on Monday and it has now been decided that he is not fit enough to feature. Manager Nigel Worthington has called up Evans' younger brother Corry, who is currently in San Marino with the Under 21 squad for a European Championship qualifier on Tuesday. He will join up with the senior squad on Wednesday to provide defensive cover, with Aaron Hughes and Chris Baird both rested, Gareth McAuley injured and Shane Duffy opting to play for Republic of Ireland.
