Norwegian defender has contract terminated

Christian Kalvenes' contract with Burnley has been cancelled by mutual consent three months before it was set to expire. The Norwegian left-back joined the Clarets from Dundee United in June 2008 and played a key role in helping them secure promotion from the Championship. He made 21 appearances in the second tier but has fallen down the pecking order this term, starting just three times in the Premier League. Kalvenes has made a further three appearances from the bench, but his last game in a Burnley shirt came against Chelsea at the end of January. Manager Brian Laws has now allowed the 33-year-old to leave Turf Moor and return to Norway immediately rather than wait until his deal ran out in the summer.
