Martyn Waghorn is hoping his loan spell at Leicester City will boost his first-team prospects at Sunderland next season.
The striker has impressed during a campaign with the Foxes and he has scored 12 goals in the Championship as Nigel Pearson's side close on a play-off place.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce recently confirmed the 20-year-old will be part of his plans next season and he is not looking to sell Waghorn in the summer.
Waghorn is happy to have the support of Bruce and is optimistic his time at the Walkers Stadium will be of benefit to his Sunderland career.
Good sign
"That was good to hear," said Waghorn regarding Bruce's recent comments. "I've had a great time at Leicester and this was my chance to get some first-team experience, score some goals and try to shine.
"Hopefully I've proved that I can do that and I can push on next season. I'm happy to stay at Sunderland and fight for a place.
"Nobody knows what will happen until we come back for the start of the new season, but it is a good sign that the manager has said he wants me as part of his squad next year.
"It's great to play in pressure games and I've played in some tough ones this season. Every game is difficult in the Championship, especially when you go to places like Newcastle away.
"It's been a huge learning curve for me and hopefully I can push on at Sunderland next season. I came out on loan to get experience and I feel I've done that while getting a few goals."
