Reading have secured the services of Ivar Ingimarsson for another season after the defender signed a new one-year deal.
As first revealed by
skysports.com, Ingimarsson was keen on extending his stay at the Madejski Stadium, despite interest from several clubs.
The Iceland stopper's contract was set expire in the summer, however the extension will keep him with Brian McDermott's side until the end of the 2010-11 campaign.
Ingimarsson told the club's
official website: "I am very pleased and already looking forward to next season. I'm delighted that everything is sorted, the timing is good and I can go into the summer knowing I will be here.
"I've been at this club for a long time and I'm looking forward to at least another year here. I always wanted to stay, then it was just about getting an agreement that was right for me and right for the club. I am happy with that and I hope they are as well.
"2010 was almost unbelievable, we had such a turnaround and it was amazing to even come close to the play-offs after where we were at Christmas time.
Delighted
"That is credit to the manager and (assistant manager) Nigel Gibbs, and it also makes me excited for next season. I hope we can build on the second half of the season and make a push."
The 32-year-old has become a fans' favourite at Reading since his arrival from Wolves in 2003 and has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Berkshire club.
And Royals boss McDermott was delighted to have kept hold of his centre-back and captain for another season.
He added: "I am very pleased we've got everything concluded, we've been talking with him regularly because we wanted him here.
"He is our club captain and a very experienced player who has seen a lot of success over a period of time. He's played many games here and is very respected among the players and the staff, so we are delighted."
