Patrice Evra has shown he is full of confidence heading into the World Cup, claiming France have the world's best players.
Spain are favourites having won Euro 2008 before continuing their fine form, sweeping France aside in a 2-0 friendly win in Paris in March.
Brazil, England and Argentina are next up in the World Cup betting, but Evra believes France have a squad strong enough to be among the main contenders.
Despite struggling to qualify having scraped past the Republic of Ireland in a controversial play-off, the Manchester United left-back insists Les Bleus will be going for glory in South Africa.
"We practically have the best players in the world at every position," said Evra.
Going to win
"That does not make us the best team in the world - not yet anyway.
"We have work to do to become that. But we're going to the World Cup to win."
France won the 1998 World Cup as hosts yet suffered a group stage exit in 2002.
Few fancied them heading into the 2006 World Cup but Les Bleus managed to reach the final, losing to Italy on penalties.
That side featured stars like Zinedine Zidane, Lilian Thuram and Claude Makelele, who have since retired, while Patrick Vieira and David Trezeguet are no longer in the French squad.
Pride
The Gallic challenge is now led by the likes of Andre-Pierre Gignac and Yoann Gourcuff and Evra insists they will be determined to maintain France's World Cup pedigree.
"Everybody seems to believe that we're going there on a safari, that we are not among the favourites" he added. "But our pride can help us go places."
