Three Lions hopeful suffers injury setback

England defender Stephen Warnock has been hit with an injury blow after limping out of training on Thursday. The 28-year-old suffered a twisted ankle in Austria and he will need to be assessed to see whether he can train on Friday. Warnock was hoping to play a part in England's final friendly match before the World Cup, which takes place on Sunday when they take on Japan in Graz. Following Leighton Baines' mediocre display at left-back against Mexico on Monday, Warnock is still regarded as having an outside chance of making Fabio Capello's final 23-man squad for South Africa. Either Baines or Warnock could be back-up for first-choice Ashley Cole, but the Aston Villa man's chance to impress has possibly been damaged by this latest setback. Meanwhile, Sunderland striker Darren Bent has shrugged off the hamstring problem that prevented him from facing the Mexicans and is in contention for the weekend. Capello has already confirmed Ledley King will not take part, whilst the Chelsea contingent of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole will play, while Joe Cole is also available.
