Whites sign Argentinian left-back on free transfer

Leeds United have completed the signing of former Swansea defender Federico Bessone on a free transfer. The 26-year-old Argentinian left-back has signed a three-year deal at Elland Road and becomes manager Simon Grayson's fourth signing of the summer. Bessone made 22 appearances for the Swans last season, and joins the Whites as they look for a successful campaign in the Championship following their promotion from League One. He joins fellow Argentine Luciano Becchio at Leeds, and the pair both played as youngsters in Barcelona's ranks. Bessone also spent three years at Catalan club Espanyol, and completed a season on loan at Gimnastic before moving to Wales. Grayson told Leeds' official website: "I watched him last year. He's very comfortable on the ball and is a very good acquisition. "He has a good pedigree and he is another good player to come into the squad. We needed another left-back, Ben Parker was injured last year, and he gives us another option. "He's a good age, he speaks good English, and he was part of a Swansea team that did well. He can handle a ball, he can defend, and he has done well when he has played in the Championship.

Options

"We're delighted we've got him. He had an option to re-sign at Swansea which he turned down because of our interest in him. "He's excited. He's aware of the club and the fanbase and having done well with Swansea last season he wants to go one better this season with us." Bessone will compete with academy products Ben Parker, 22, and Aiden White, 18, for the left-back berth at Elland Road next season, while versatile Andy Hughes may also be in the mix. The Argentinian joins defender Paul Connolly, goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and striker Billy Paynter at Leeds, who have all joined on free transfers.
