Werder Bremen have been handed a double boost with the news that Per Mertesacker and Hugo Almeida intend to stay at the club.
With Bremen team-mate Mesut Ozil catching the eye of a number of big clubs after impressing in the World Cup this summer, Mertesacker and Almeida have revealed they will remain at the Weserstadion.
Central defender Mertesacker, 25, has recently been linked with a move to Premier League outfit Arsenal but the Germany international is set to snub a switch to London.
"Werder Bremen is a good club with some challenges to go through," he told
Bild.
"Werder Bremen is a club able to achieve everything, we just need to show more consistency. I am going to stay a player of Werder Bremen."
Meanwhile, Portugal striker Almeida, 26, wants to sign a new contract with the Bundesliga side as his current deal only has 12 months remaining.
He added: "I have a contract left at Werder Bremen and I would like to fulfil that deal.
"If I am given the opportunity I would definitely like to sign a new contract with Werder beyond (June) 2011."
Werder Bremen finished third in the German top-flight last season and will compete in next season's UEFA Champions League if they get past the qualifying round.
