Scottish star sees Chicago base as perfect for pre-season

Darren Fletcher is relishing the prospect of Manchester United's pre-season tour to North America. The Red Devils have made their first visit to the USA since 2004, and they will also play games in Canada and Mexico. Sir Alex Ferguson's side have arrived at their training base in Chicago and received a low-key welcome, but Fletcher believes that is what makes the tour the perfect environment for United's pre-season plans. "Pre-season is important business in terms of getting fit for the start of the season, but there will be some time for relaxation, which the players will enjoy," he told MUTV. "There won't be thousands of fans outside the hotel so maybe the lads will be able to get into the cities and take in a few sights."

Celtic friendly

United play Celtic in Toronto on Friday before having games in Philadelphia, Kansas, Houston and Guadalajara. And it is Friday's clash in Canada that Fletcher, a Scotland international, is anticipating most. "It is a great tour," said the 26-year-old midfielder. "We've not been there in a while. "And although three weeks is going to be a long time to be away, there will be some good games. "Personally, playing against Celtic will be interesting as I will be up against a few of my Scotland team-mates. But I'm looking forward to it all really."
