Jordan and Ashdown on trial at Pompey

Portsmouth's new manager Steve Cotterill is running the rule over free agents Stephen Jordan and Jamie Ashdown ahead of the new Championship season. Jordan is on the lookout for a new club following three years with Burnley while Ashdown was released by Pompey at the end of last season. Left-back Jordan, 27, came through Manchester City's youth set-up before joining Burnley in 2007 to secure regular first-team football. Jordan made 25 league appearances for the Clarets last term but was unable to prevent them from staying up in their first season in the Premier League. Ashdown has spent six seasons with Portsmouth, but his contract was not renewed at the end of last term. Cotterill is now having a close look at the 29-year-old shot-stopper with David James' future unclear and both trialists have linked up with the club for their pre-season tour of North America.
