Bruce waits on defender's hamstring problem

Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand has given Steve Bruce an injury scare after picking up a hamstring problem in their pre-season win at Leicester. Ferdinand was forced off after just 20 minutes of the 2-1 win at the Walkers Stadium with the injury and he was replaced by Phil Bardsley. Bruce is waiting to find out the full extent of the injury and is hoping it is not too serious with the big kick-off just two weeks away. "He has a hamstring injury and we'll look at that," Bruce told Sky Sports News. "That is the disappointing thing for me as Michael Turner is suspended for the first two games of the season "It's a worry for us - we'll see how bad it is over the next 24-48 hours." Bruce also revealed his delight at the news that Kieran Richardson had signed a new three-year deal at the Stadium of Light. "We've been talking all summer and I'm delighted he's put pen to paper," added Bruce.
