Turner surprised defender was still available

Shrewsbury Town have brought in former Crewe Alexandra defender Danny O'Donnell on a six-month contract. O'Donnell was released by Crewe at the end of the last campaign and had trained with Rochdale earlier in pre-season. He has subsequently featured in Shrewsbury's last two friendlies and has done enough to earn a deal with Graham Turner's side. Turner told the club's official website: "He will sign a six-month contract and be with us until at least January "I've known him since his Liverpool days and watched him in the reserves there and he's then had a couple of seasons at Crewe. "He's fit, athletic, mobile, heads the ball well and will be a good addition to the squad. "I was quite surprised that he was still on the market last week and he did well for us against Coventry and then again today."
