City striker ruled out for up to two months with knee problem

Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard has been ruled out for up to two months with a troublesome knee injury. Just a week into the new Championship season, the Robins' forward will undergo surgery in an attempt to correct the ongoing problem. The news comes at the worst possible time for manager Steve Coppell, whose side lost their opening game of the season to Millwall before being knocked out of the first round of the Carling Cup by Southend. "Nicky will have an operation today (Wednesday)," confirmed Coppell. "The specialist has found a problem and recommended surgery but we will not know the full extent of the problem until he goes into the knee to see what is there. "We are hoping it is not too serious and that it will be a case of four to five weeks before he is able to train."
