Skysports.com can confirm Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand is weighing up a move to Palermo.

Italian side keen on Black Cats defender

Skysports.com can confirm Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand is weighing up a move to Palermo. The Serie A side have made an enquiry for the 25-year-old as they look to lure the defender to Italy. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce appears to be willing to let Ferdinand move on as he does not figure in his long-term plans at the Stadium of Light. The signings of Titus Bramble, Nedum Onuoha, and John Mensah have pushed Ferdinand down the pecking order on Wearside and he could be interested in a fresh challenge.

Discussions

Ferdinand's agent, Pete Smith, has confirmed Palermo are chasing the former West Ham defender. "The situation as it stands is that Sunderland and Palermo are in discussions about a possible loan move or permanent deal," Smith told skysports.com. "If something is agreed between the two clubs then we will discuss the move with Palermo. "Anton is keeping his options open and if other clubs are interested we will see what happens."
