Defender becomes third Seleccao player to quit international football

Paulo Ferreira has become the latest Portugal player to retire from international football. The Chelsea defender represented the Seleccao 62 times and was part of Carlos Queiroz's squad that competed in the World Cup this summer. Ferreira was expected to be called up for Portugal's Euro 2012 qualifying double-header against Cyprus and Norway. But the 31-year-old full-back has joined the likes of Deco and Simao in hanging up his international boots and concentrating on club football. Ferreira's retirement marks another significant change in the make-up of Portugal's national team. Of the 14 players used in the 2006 World Cup semi-final against France, only Ricardo Carvalho and Cristiano Ronaldo remain in the set-up.
