Dutch midfielder enjoyed Midlands outing

Rafael van der Vaart was happy with his Tottenham Hotspur debut in the draw against West Bromwich Albion. The £8million signing got his first taste of Premier League football in Saturday's 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns and the Dutch midfielder caught the eye in a free role for Spurs. Van der Vaart played a key role in Luka Modric's 27th minute opener with a clever looped pass towards Roman Pavlyuchenko but could only look on as Chris Brunt secured a point for the hosts with a first-half equaliser. And the new Spurs recruit enjoyed his first outing in England's top tier, even if it did not yield a winning start. Van der Vaart told Sky Sports News: "I think I had a good first game and had a few really good passes. It was unlucky that we didn't score one more but in the end I am happy. "They played really good in the second half and we didn't play well especially in the midfield." Van der Vaart has had little time to adjust since joining Spurs on transfer deadline day and was away with Holland during the international break. But the 27-year-old insists he already feels comfortable turning out for Harry Redknapp's side. He added: "This is a great team, a great place and nice guys so it is easy for me and I feel at home."
