N'Zogbia impresses Martinez

Roberto Martinez thinks Charles N'Zogbia has won over his team-mates since the transfer window closed.

Latics boss delighted with winger's application

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez thinks winger Charles N'Zogbia has won over his team-mates since the closure of the summer transfer window. The Frenchman was expected to join rivals Birmingham City before the window closed after the clubs agreed a fee, although the ex-Newcastle man was unable to agree terms. Martinez felt the 24-year-old needed to convince his colleagues that his heart was still with the club despite the failed move, something he believes N'Zogbia has now accomplished. N'Zogbia played a pivotal role off the bench in Wednesday's come-from-behind success over Preston in the Carling Cup and Martinez has been delighted with his application this month.

Focused

"Charles has always been like that," said Martinez. "Once the window shut he was focused, concentrated and wanted to do what he could to help the team. "He has had to win the players over and he has done that. I have said before that Charles has been a victim of what I feel is a very unfair situation for players. "The transfer window is a time when players need to think about their futures and their families and that shouldn't be going on while the competition is going on. "The authorities should look into that. It is not only Charles, it was Javier Mascherano (at Liverpool) - every dressing room in the country has been affected. "But what I am proud of is his reaction since the window closed. He has been patient and worked to high standards on a daily basis."
