Mainz midfielder wants Germany future

Mainz midfielder Lewis Holtby has insisted he wants to play for Germany rather than England. The 20-year-old was born in Germany but would be eligible to represent to represent the Three Lions because his father is English. He would be able to switch allegiance under Fifa rules, despite being captain of the Germany Under-21s, because he has not yet played an official senior international. The winger has earned rave reviews for his performances this season with surprise Bundesliga leaders Mainz, and is willing to wait for a chance with Joachim Low's Germany even though he supported England as a child. "I have made up my mind and I would like to play for Germany," Holtby told Germany's ZDF television. "My father accepts that." Holtby could be set for his first senior call-up by Germany in November when Low has promised to take a look at several young talents for the friendly in Sweden.
